I killed a troll!
Also I built a tower that looks like shit.
Just wait until you find out how much of a pain it is to build stuff that doesn’t look like shit, you’ll be very happy with your tower.
Dammit! I was hoping to build a big ass mead hall once I get enough construction skill.
You can have a big ass-mead hall, but it’s gonna be shitty.
Seriously though, get a pickaxe and start mining, you’re gonna need a bronze axe to chop down oak trees and use that sweet core wood to make the giant wooden poles for support beams. It’s the best option for support until you get stone building much later.
Valheim is something special. It comes together in a way that a lot of similar games just don’t. Everything feels very organic and rewarding, and even the setbacks create their own fun. I’d never have imagined I’d have so much fun just sailing a load of metal ore from one place to another, or that I’d be so invested in renovating my video game kitchen to optimize for storage space and workflow. It has its flaws, but I still haven’t found anything that does what it does better.
Is it worth playing solo?
I’ve been playing it solo
If you want to build big/cool stuff - no. The grind for building materials when playing alone is too big. If you only care about action/exploration, then it’s good.
Valheim is such a fantastic game
Valheim is great! I recently started playing with my partner and we’ve been having tons of fun.
The sense of progression is great. Simple skeletons were giving us so much trouble when we first started, now after about 40 hours we’re competently making our way through dragur swamps to grab some scrap iron, while dodging abominations. I don’t feel “good” at the game yet and it’s been cool learning how to play without feeling the need to look anything up on wikis.
the building is great. a friend of mine and I played for a while. he likes to kill shit/explore and I like to build shit, especially bases with sniper nests and all the overlapping max rest bonuses. he would keep me stocked up with stam food, and I would do all the painstaking ground leveling, earthen walls, ditches, parapets, cozy b.s. and dock construction so there would always be plenty of storage and a safe place to portal to.
I was always obsessed with partially artificial/enhanced peninsulas to make like a fortified crannog-type village and agricultural complex.
one time we built a shitty base at the top of one of those massive standing stones at the boundary of a forest, prairie and meadow. it was ludicrous and we fell off and died a lot in the construction, but eventually it had all the necessary guard rails, safe spots, and had some crazy views where we could watch the mobs below aggro each other.
Yeah I’ve been enjoying it myself lately in my second attempt to play the game.
I made it to the Mistlands yesterday and… no spoilers but, this place is awesome and also fuck this place.
this place is awesome and also fuck this place.
me every time i find a new biome. recently got almost instantly annihilated when i found the plains ahead of time.
